A Jezebel Spirit - Summary
1 Kings16:23-33; 18:4, 13, 19; 19:1-2; 21:8-11; 2 Kings 9:22, 36-37; Revelation 2:20-24
Jezebel spirits appear in the forms of false religions, cults, and false teachings. The primary manifestations of a Jezebel Spirit is deceit, pride, false teaching, manipulation, control, and destruction of God's people. A Jezebel Spirit must contain all of these qualities or it can't truly be classified as a Jezebel Spirit.
On occasion, an individual may not know or realize he is being used by or operating in a Jezebel Spirit. If that is the case, the individual may lack much in the area of discernment and submission to Godly authority.
People operating in a Jezebel Spirit...
...attack God's people thinking they are doing God's will.
...embrace extra-Biblical thinking, practices, and beliefs.
...attempt to detour or override leadership authority.
...are convinced that they are always being persecuted by God's people.
...are very cunning, manipulative, smooth talkers, and skilled at turning people against one another.
...use excess flattery and intimidation.
...are very self-centered.
...insult people around them to help feel better about themself.
A person operating in a Jezebel Spirit practices all 8 of the above points.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 1 Corinthians 5:4-5
It’s not our individual duty to spiritually kill Jezebel. The pastor and the deacons of the congregation can confront the person in an appropriate manner without taking matters into our own hands.
Always keep in mind that our war is not with flesh and blood but against Satan and his demons:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

Many people think they know about the Queen Jezebel, wife to King Ahab, both rivals of the prophets (truth bearers) who ruled the kingdom of Israel in the book of Kings in the Bible.
I was raised hearing stories of her and an image depicted in my mind of a sexy, immodest, gorgeous woman, that wore a lot of makeup and was full on vanity and very sinful. That was all I knew her as.
I read a description of someone who recently described her as such in a woman they saw. But they do not understand, she’s does so much more.
Some church leaders will not allow a woman in leadership because they assume she has a “Jezebel spirit” and that May honestly not be such a bad thing- especially if these leaders do not understand spiritual warefare and have little discernment because if a woman in leadership has that spirit it can be detrimental.
But this is also hurtful to the body of Christ as women are called by God to lead. (Throughout the Bible there are so many excellent examples of female leadership. These women were humble, obedient to authority and were strong. I’ve included a link to Godly leadership in women at the end of this).
But let’s stop here for a second and see there’s more to Jezebel then a sexy woman who desires to seduce men.
A person who operates in this type of influential spirit has such traits:
-manipulative
-controlling
-will not follow authority
-prideful
-slanderous
-cunning
...the list goes on and on.
The biggest way this spirit operates is from the very root she comes from “Love” or what I call Ungodly Love:
We see the root of this spirit in 1 Kings 11:5 when King Solomon married a pagan woman who worshipped the goddess Astarte, a Sidonian goddess. This goddesses roots come from, Astaroth, in demonology, defined as the Great Duke of Hell in the first hierarchy with Beelzebub and Lucifer; he is part of the evil trinity. He is a male figure most likely named after the Near Eastern goddess Astarte- the great goddess of fertility, motherhood, and War. She is the counterpart to the Babylonian goddess, Ishtar, one of the oldest Middle Eastern aspects of the goddess dating to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Her other counterparts are Isis and Hathor of Egypt, Kali of India and Aphrodite and Demeter of Greece. Worship to her involved sexual rituals that developed into pregnancy and then an ultimate sacrifice of the children that were birthed from such sexual rituals. Better known to us now as The Spirit of Jezebel but what I refer to now as The Demon Love Spirit.
Jezebel LOVES YOU.
God is Love, but Love is not God. God hates sin, but Jezebel says, “Your Sin is Okay”.
Jezebel says, “Just love people”- but doesn’t help them through it. Her love leaves you in the comforts of your sin and the damnation of your soul.
The Apostle Paul gave hard and tough love instructions to the Corinthian church that someone with the spirit of Jezebel or what I call the “The Demon Love Spirit” would never say. There was women out of order in the Corinthian church that brought in pagan worship and that’s why Paul sat them down. He didn’t allow them to lead service or even speak because they were soo wrapped up in their idolatrous lifestyle to the goddess Aphrodite: they were loud, disruptive, obnoxious women that wanted to lead and not be told what to do by authority causing disruptions so people couldn’t learn in the church setting.
Today’s Jezebel spirit is similar but more rooted in rebellion, especially against leadership. It’s not often open rebellion either, it’s secretive rebellion from authority.
She may not be so appealing to the eyes, although somewhat sexual but her motives to encourage you to stay in your sin and just be loved for who you are and going against God’s word calling you to be Holy and set apart, consecrated to God is just as lustful and appealing to the carnal appetite.
I say all of this to show women can lead and are called to lead IF they posses the right spirit- Holy Spirit. Know the difference! Rightly divide the Word of God! Study to show yourself approved. Study the cultures, the ancient ways of life. Ask Holy Spirit to help you understand what the Bible is saying.
I have had more combat with this spirit in the last couple of years then I care for from people (women) I thought highly of that possessed this spirit and led from it. I didn’t know they possessed this spirit until I started to notice the control, manipulation, and rebellion to God and authority they actually operated in.
It is not something to pick a fight with. If it is being allowed to lead then GET OUT FROM UNDER ITS (her) AUTHORITY! Authority works like this: God, Jesus, Man, Woman.
If God, Jesus, Man allow me as a woman to lead, then I will lead. I will lead in humility and meekness.
Authority from satan works like this: Satan, Antichrist, Demons, humans.
There’s roots of authority. If Jezebel (what the Bible called the queen of Babylon (hell) is in charge, and she has authority over you- you can pray Psalms 91 all day but those fiery darts are going to keep on coming.
Remember she’s a goddess of War.
Spiritual warfare will be your life and lot. Everything will be a target in your life- but particularly your marriage and your children because that is what she demands as a sacrifice.
Break all ties with her.
I will not be apart of ANYTHING if she is behind the pulpit leading. That means preaching, teaching, on the finance committee, leading worship, teaching my children, or leader of the pot luck dinners! And this is a loose list just for example. Am I going to call her out? Nope. I will not pick that fight. She will just not be my leader. Something to think about folks. If you are experiencing problems in your church, in your marriage, or with your children (especially) you may have a Jezebel in leadership in your midst because as the anointing flowed off the beard of Aaron, and can flow from breast to breast, so can demonic influence. And she will turn everyone against you while she eats you up to your face. And remember, it’s not the spirit we wrestle against. Ephesians 6 says it’s a spiritual war. HOWEVER, I do not have to be in war with a demon spirit at all times. Yes, we as Christians face opposition on every side. We are not exempt from persecution. But there are some fights we don’t have to fight. Get smart, stand when you’ve done all you know to do stand. Paul didn’t say how to stand did he? I can take a step out or to the side and still stand. I don’t want to be apart of anymore unnecessary spiritual warfare. There’s enough going on to add to my plate.

We’re all in this fight together. I love my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ but revival starts in the pulpit. God is going to deal with His children and Bride First. This is where it starts. Pray for your Pastors, folks. It’s a hard time to live in and the Bible says it Will get worse. Let this be a word of encouragement. We have to outsmart the devil. We have to learn the strategies of the enemy in order to fight him. I’m not backing down from serving My God on account of fear of the devil because Greater is He that is in me then he that is in the world!
The Demon Love Spirit or Jezebel hates the preachers who speak truth.
Jezebel stops at nothing to keep the Holy Spirit from moving. She underestimates and undermines true prophetic intercession. Deliverance is her worst enemy so she will make a mockery of it and make you think those prophets calling out the wrong so God can give life to the dead parts of the soul are delusional. Prophesy is meant to build up, instruct and not tare down but yes, sometimes God gives hard words of truth in love. Jezebel strikes down that hard truth that is sometimes given through a true prophet.
(“Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?” And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals. Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.””
I Kings 18:17-19 NKJV)
Jezebel hated Elijah and chased him down after his showdown with the fake prophets, (1 Kings 18:20-40), she hired that served her in her temple worship to Baal & the feminine form of Baal-Asherah(Ashtoreth). He was so distraught by her rage he went into a full blown depression and ran from her because the goddess of war was seeking him down to kill him. (1 Kings 19:1-8) It took angelic ministry to revitalize his spirit and get him back on track. Remember the reciprocations of Jezebel I mentioned in my first post as she’s the “goddesses war”?
Elijah was a truth bearer/ speaker. He worked in signs and wonders and she and her false prophets could not! This is another tell-tale sign of this spirit. It’s a counterfeit prophet and powerless when it comes to true miracles.
Jesus said Signs and wonders shall follow those who believe.
Someone operating in the Jezebel Spirit can not operate in signs and wonders by the power of Jesus Christ.
Look at their ministry. Yes they may have been apart of something but did the sign or miracle come straight from their ministry, by the laying on of their hands or did it come from someone else’s they claim to be apart of?
The false prophets cut themselves and cried out to their false God...nothing happened.
This went on All Day!!!
Then, Elijah drenched the sacrifice meant to be burnt up soaking wet and prayed to God and God lit it on FIRE!!!!! The sacrifice Totally consumed the wet logs. Jezebel and those who follow her and are under her authority cannot do such! There were 450 false prophets and they couldn’t produce one miracle that day but 1 true prophet, only by the hand of God Almighty, could!
You can have a Mega church and not see one true miracle if Jezebel is leading in the mix. She kills signs and wonders out! She cannot produce such, only God can!
They like the warlocks, Jannes and Jambres (Exodus 7:10-12) can have counterfeit miracles from satan. Just as Moses threw the rod down and it became a snake, so did Jannes and Jambres BUT Moses’ snake consumed their replicated snakes. God’s power is Greater then the enemies power!
Revelations talks of this demonic power as well. The counterfeit power that comes from sorcery, witchcraft, or “magic” which is satan:
“For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”
Revelation 16:14 NKJV
This is why people seek and believe In psychics, palm readings and tarot cards.
They give a form of reality and what seems to be close enough to truth to seem like they can be reality. But it comes from a demon power that is an illusion. It’s a counterfeit power from satan it’s just enough reality to make you believe in its power to draw you into curses and darker evils that will haunt you and torment you. If you are actively seeking this out as a Christian STOP! You’re opening the door to the goddess of war and more spiritual warfare on your life!
This portrayal of power is nothing compared to Yahweh. He answers by FIRE. He is All Powerful! He is high above Every principality, power, ruler of darkness, and high above spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.
Jezebel is a counterfeit prophet. Although she rages with hell and war, she’s no match for Jesus Christ! Jesus said, we are in the world, but not of the world. Come out from among them and be separate. (John 17:16; 2 Corinthians 6:17 [paraphrased])
This is what he was talking about. Ephesians 5:11 says, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
This is again, why I will not be apart of anything that allows Jezebel behind the pulpit.
The Demon Love Spirit or Jezebel can only be destroyed through an anointed leader.
I truly do not believe God calls us to fight with this demon, but to destroy it. He calls leaders to the frontlines on this Demon Love Spirit, Jezebel.
There are certain things only God and His angels can rebuke:
Daniel had fasted and prayed for 3 weeks and still wasn’t seeing results.
That’s because there was such spiritual warefare going on in the heavenly realm.
The arch angel, Michael, was warring with the angel of God against satan (King of Persia):
“Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.”
Daniel 10:12-13 NKJV
There are certain things only your Leaders can rebuke:
A Leader like Jehu, a man anointed to be King of Israel by the prophets Not once, but twice!
It wasn’t an established custom or rule to anoint a king in Israel. It was done when the circumstances were out of the ordinary, or when there might be some question as to his title to the crown. It was a mark of being put on a mission by God and the competence of fulfilling the mission.
Jehu was anointed by God to totally annihilate Jezebel. He was King.
One thing we misinterpret as the body of Christ is authority. As I’ve mentioned in the last two parts of the Jezebel series, authority comes from God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, then man, then woman.
I believe in the power of prayer and I believe Jesus gave us authority to trample demons or serpents. Just as Jesus crushed the serpents head in the Garden of Gethsemane before He bore the willful burden of the cross as a sign of satan’s impending doom- He uses us today to upserp His authority in the earth. We are the conduits He chose to be truth among lies, to speak His life giving Words to come to pass just as Jesus who was wisdom formed the earth and established it (Proverbs 3:19). Just as out of our mouth comes life or death, blessing or cursing (Proverbs 18:20). He passed on that baton at His ascension and told us Greater things will you do in my Name (through the power of the Holy Spirit) [paraphrased John 14:12].
Just as we have the power to do these things through Christ and Him alone- we have to follow the law of Authority which was put in place by God.
Jehu was a commander in the army of Israel, under King Ahab and his son, King Joram. He was under both their leadership until in secrecy God had his prophets to anoint Jehu king in their place. It wasn’t until then that Jehu had the go ahead from God to take down Jezebel. First, he started with King Joram and then after killing him, he had Jezebel thrown down from a high tower and her body splattered to the ground.
When Jezebel is in leadership in your church, you can’t get a group of people in the side lines to pray her out or love the demon out of her. She will scratch you up coming and going. She will trick you into thinking she’s got full deliverance when her heart never turned away from the pit of destruction planted deep inside of her.
It takes God to anoint a King to take Jezebel out. In other words it is your pastors place to take care of this spirit.
If he doesn’t then you need to understand as I said before, Everything will be a target in your life- but particularly your marriage and your children because that is what she demands as a sacrifice. Ongoing spiritual warfare will be your lot. You can pray a holy hedge of protection around yourself and family all day, every day, 365 days a year and you’ll keep having trouble on every side. God will be faithful to protect you but it will be constant warefare as the goddess of war is raging against you. It doesn’t seem very heroic does it? It actually is very tiresome.
When Jehu was entering the city where King Joram was staying, he had his watchmen go out to meet Jehu and asked him if he came in peace to him. Then, again King Joram asked Jehu himself face to face if he came in peace: Jehu finally replied, “What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many.”
Then, when Jehu came into the city where Jezebel was, she called out of her high tower and asked him mockingly if he came in peace.
He didn’t even answer her but commanded her eunuchs to throw her down out of the tower and her body splattered to the ground. Her reign was over.
She cries for peace- but is the demon Queen of War. If you are going to side with her, you will be under her spell and will experience opposition on every side. She doesn’t even give a counterfeit peace. Fear is her peace. Constant torment of the mind with her manipulation is her form of peace.
The only way to defeat her is for leadership to not allow her to lead and the Leader of your church has to be the one to sit her down.
I’ve read a lot about her in the past 3 to 4 years. Different authors have taught different strategies as to combat this spirit. The Bible offers the truest form of totally defeating this spirit. Leadership, get rid of it in your church! If it will not take no for an answer, tell it to leave.
I close in saying this once again.
Pastors need your prayers more now then ever before. Leadership needs your prayers now more then ever before, because as the spirit of Jezebel is in our land so strong right now, it has infiltrated our churches. The Demon Spirit of Love and acceptance makes God throw up. He hates this. Who are we to call good what God calls evil? Stay strong Bride of Christ, the days draw more evil but that is an opportunity for Christ to Shine Brighter through the light of His Glorious Son He has placed in You!
Hide it under a bushel, no, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Ephesians 5:8-11, 13, 15, 17 NKJV
““And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.
Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.
I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts.
And I will give to each one of you according to your works. “Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. But hold fast what you have till I come.
And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations— ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’— as I also have received from My Father; “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’”
