Music is not inherently evil. Any type or style of music can be used to glorify God. In fact, God following song writers throughout history have taken popular tavern songs and turned them into songs that glorify God.

Throughout the Old Testament, followers of God sang and played music.

God uses any type of music that is in compliance with Philippians 4:8-
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

God doesn't only use Southern Gospel. God doesn't only use Praise and Worship music. I however encourage the reader to only listen to the music of true Christians who use their talents for the glory of God.

The earliest instrument mentioned in scripture was the harp: Genesis 4:21.
Other instruments in the Bible were cymbals, trumpet, timbrel (tambourine), drum, lyre, oboe, viols, dulcimer, horn, cornet, flute, Sackbut (trombone), bells, psaltery, sistra (rattler), and triangle. Modern instruments can be used to worship God as well.

The use of instruments and singing can be seen in the New Testament:
Matthew 9:23, 26:30; Mark 14:26; Luke 2:13-14, 7:32; Acts 2:1-4, 46, 47; 4:24, 16:25, 26; I Corinthians 13:1, 14:7-8, 15-16; Ephesians 5:18-19; Colossians 3:16; James 5:13; Revelation 5:8-14; 7:15, 14:2-3; 15:3, 20, 18:22
