Body, Soul, and Spirit

1 Thessalonians 5
23   And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5

23And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

Romans 7

23But I discern in my bodily members [in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh] a different law (rule of action) at war against the law of my mind (my reason) and making me a prisoner to the law of sin that dwells in my bodily organs [in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh].
24
O unhappy and pitiable and wretched man that I am! Who will release and deliver me from [the shackles of] this body of death?

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1 Corinthians 15:44
[As surely as] there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body.

Humans are tri-une beings. We are flesh, soul, and spirit.

Our flesh is our body or our earth suit. The flesh is temporary. It allows us to live and react in our universe. Our flesh houses the soul and spirit. Our bodies crave for every urge to be met. When we allow ourselves to follow the urges and drives of our flesh, we find ourselves acting little better than wild animals.

The part that is our core is the soul. Our identitity, mind, will, intellect, and emotions are the parts of our soul. So in truth, the seat of our emotions is not our "heart" but our soul. Or, we can say that our "heart" is part of the makeup of our soul.

Our spirit is a body too but it is spiritual body. Our spirit craves interaction with and connection to God. Too many times, we attempt to stop this craving by filling our days and lives with everything but God and the things of God. We cannot confuse our spirit with The HolySpirit.

We come into existence at conception with a soul and spirit when our body begins to form. When we are born again, our soul and spirit is purified by Christ and His blood. We however must keep the flesh under subjection to God through our submission to Christ and His Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:16-17

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

It is not a hopeless task or a teaching based upon works. God gives us strength and everything we need to accomplish these basics. We've only to yield.
